How to Evaluate the Product
Open the pouch (package) of the product and;
1. Examine the product; no or less furs
(projections or hairs) on the surface of the
product should be found.
(These kinds of furs come off from the cast and
get into skin, and cause the patient itching or
allergy.)
2. No or less flow-down should be found.
(Flow-downed area will make rough surface and block
openings for ventilation.)
3. Smell the product; no bad order should be found. No or less smell is better than (even) good smell.
Emerge the product and apply it on patient (or test pipe)
4. Feel the product; it should unroll easily.
5. Feel the stretch %; Robo Cast Fibreglass has about 22.3%, and Robo Cast Polyester has about 20.7 and 3M Scotchcast has about 18.7% in length-way stretch. (Tested with 200g/inch) (More stretch makes it easier to wrap angle or bonny prominence like elbow, heel.)
6. Feel the smoothness during molding; it should be smooth and should not stick to gloves. (Robo Cast has patented on this - Lubricant.)
7. No forming/ Bubble should be appear on the surface of the product – forming should be distinguished from bubble from lubricant. Forming will make rough surface and block openings for ventilation.
8. Compare the Set-Time and Weight-Bearing-Time: Set-Time should be about 3~5 minutes and Weight-Bearing-Time about 20~30 minutes.
9. End of the rolls should have excellent lay-down; in some case of bad product, doctor/ cast technician should hold the end of rolls a couple of minutes until it fully stick to the cast.
10. Compare the Compression Strength with others.
11. Compare the Impact Strength with others; Robo Cast Polyester is very strong and durable esp. on edge sides so it will not break easily. (Products made of Fibreglass can be easily broke/ cracked/ tore apart on edge-sides.)
12. See the color; no blot, smear, or smudge should be found. It should be clean.
13. X-ray translucency of Polyester product is better than Fibreglass.
(Better X-ray translucency makes it easier to take a correct diagnosis and to examine the process of patient¡¯s recovery.)
14. Robo Cast Polyester makes less dust than Fibreglass when removed. And the dusts of Polyester subsides (comes down), on the other hand dusts of Fibreglass stirs up. And tiny, fine dusts of Fibreglass can not be filtered by common vacuum machine that is really harmful to human body. (Doctor and Cast Technician don¡¯t need to worry about potential hazard in relation to exposure to (or inhaling) fiberglass dust in the workplace.)
15. Robo Cast Polyester can be burned up after use, which minimizes environmental pollution.
